Dzongu : 7 Days in Hidden Paradise Tour
Route:
Day 1: Arrival - Gangtok
Day 2: Gangtok - Dzongu
Day 3 - Day 5 : Dzongu
Day 6: Dzongu - Gangtok
Day 7: Gangtok - Departure
Arrival at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. You will be received by your guide/driver and escorted to your waiting vehicle. The drive to Gangtok takes about 5 hours, depending on the traffic conditions en route.
The drive also gradually takes you from 400 ft to about 5400 ft, passing through Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, Teesta valley, and hills covered in sub-tropical vegetation.
Arrive Gangtok and check into your hotel.
Evening free to explore the capital city of Sikkim. A walk along the MG Marg, and Lal Bazar areas are recommended as leisure activities. The small "Green City" Zone is a shoppers paradise, lined with many branded stores, including that of FabIndia, Woodlands, Skechers, Adidas, Nikon, and many others. It also has many authentic cafes serving varieties of Coffee, and delectable pastries and cakes.
Dinner.
After breakfast, proceed for the drive to Dzongu, the Hidden Paradise. The approx 3.5 hrs of drive will cross the areas of Kabi Lungchok, where the historical "blood brotherhood" between the Lepchas and the Bhutias were forged, Paney Phensang, and finally to Mangan, the district headquarters of North Sikkim. From Mangan, you will be required to obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) to enter Dzongu.
Your Lepcha host family will receive you at their homestay with a traditional reception ceremony. Once you are settled in you will be a part of the host family for the next 4 days.
Once you are already in Dzongu, the program will be made free for you to enjoy however you would want to. Since the main aspect of this tour is the discovery of not only the Hidden Paradise, but also your own soul searching moments. Some of the activities you can do in this period are:-
1) Participate in your host family's daily chores
2) An experience working in the fields
3) Take a day hike to nearby places
4) Take a hike to Lingzya waterfall
5) Take a 1 N/ 2D trekking excursion to Tholung Monastery.
6) Although the vehicle will be on standby, the activities in and around here do not require transport to be used. Thus, helping us to stay true to our commitment to preserve nature in our small ways.
Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast and say goodbye to your host family. Drive back to Gangtok via visits to Phodong & Labrang monasteries. You will also be able to visit the palace ruins of the 3rd capital city of the erstwhile Kingdom of Sikkim, at Tumlong. Although only the palace ruins exist, it makes for a good historical recollection of events.
Continue drive towards Gangtok. Check into hotel. Evening free to explore the town on your own.
After breakfast, proceed towards the departure point. Today, you can also opt to make additional sightseeing en route, especially if you have an evening departure time, or further connecting tours in nearby places.
